Every last weekend of June, Oostduinkerke bursts with festive energy during the Shrimp Festival – a lively tribute to the unique tradition of shrimp fishing on horseback, recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2013.

- Speedy Shrimp Peeling: Test your speed at the Belgian Shrimp Peeling Championship on Saturday afternoon at the Astridplein – laughter, focus and busy fingers guaranteed!
- Mieke Shrimp: Witness the festive appointment of Mieke Shrimp and her honourary ladies – the symbolic ambassadors of the fishermen’s life.
- Shrimp Fishing on Horseback: Admire the impressive horse fishermen and enthusiastic helpers, joined by children to collect the “grey gold” from the sea – a true spectacle on the beach.
- Sea Blessing and Parade: On Sunday morning, the traditional sea celebration and Sea Blessing take place, featuring horseback fishermen, folklore groups and rescue services – a tribute to all who live with the sea.
- The Shrimp Parade: The highlight of the weekend is the colourful Shrimp Parade on Sunday afternoon, featuring more than 50 groups, floats, music and traditions that bring the fishing life of Oostduinkerke to life.
